When the New York Mets landed Juan Soto from their cross-town rivals, the city was buzzing with hope. That dream of being the new king in New York just glistened in the eyes of fans. Fans imagined towering home runs, game-changing at-bats, and that signature Soto shuffle to light up Citi Field. And why not? Soto was magic in pinstripes, and many claimed he was the ‘king of baseball.’ And not to mention, the Mets landed him with an eye-watering deal of $765 million, and it was all to fulfill their dreams of World Series rings. But 48 games in that dream is slowly fading away.

Fans are almost scratching their heads, given how much of a slump Soto seems to be in. The fastballs are beating him, and his swing looks slower. His hustle has been questioned not once but twice. And for the first time in his career, he has gone 10 straight games without an extra base hit. Frustration is written all over fans and even Soto’s face at this point.

While the fans and insiders are left scrambling for answers, his agent or super-agent Scott Boras, is not surprised. Infact, he had warned Juan Soto.

Scott Boras mentioned to Sports Illustrated, “I cautioned Juan,” explaining that this kind of pressure comes from wearing the crown of being baseball’s richest player. He mentioned that it takes time to absorb and assimilate,This 90-day period of assimilation, I’ve seen it time and time again. There’s probably another 30 days to go through. It’s going to get better and better.” Now, this adjustment period is understandable because Soto has not been in these current circumstances before.

Sure, Soto was traded from the San Diego Padres to the New York Yankees–but that was different. It didn’t come with a huge load of expectations, and certainly not the weight of being the highest-paid baseball player in the history of the sport. Not to mention, in the Yankees he had Judge, and here, sure, Alonso is carrying it well, but fans expected Soto to be the magician. So, according to Boras, right now, the challenge is more about fighting than psyche than anything else. “It’s about learning how to wear the crown,” said Boras.

But for Soto, the crown has felt especially heavy lately, none more so than during his return to Yankee Stadium. The boos were sharp, and the jeers were unmistakable. Plus, Soto’s performance only added fuel to the fire. He had jogged out a ground ball in a close game! But here is the real kicker—the boos by Yankee fans could be more brutal! Because Boras just revealed that Juan Soto was close to joining the Yankees’ biggest enemy.

Forget the Mets vs. Yankees battle—Juan Soto nearly joined Yankees’ biggest rivals

Scott Boras just revealed the biggest shocker! He said that the Boston Red Sox were not window shopping—they were all in this off-season. Remember that wild deal Soto signed with the Mets? It turns out that the Red Sox had a $700 million 15-year offer on the table, too. Plus, it was not just the dollars because Soto himself has recently admitted that for him, Boston was “at the top of his list.” If things had maybe shaken out a little differently, the Bronx would have seen their star land in a Red Sox jersey instead.

Soto, talking about the Red Sox pitch, said, It was a lot of fun; they showed me a lot of love….I think it was really impressive what they brought. I definitely sat down to review it, to analyze the offers and everything they had for me.” And it was not just the Red Sox; even the Blue Jays, according to Boras, came with a good proposal that Soto looked over. So, it was not the two-horse battle between the New York teams that most thought. And Boston came in at a close third.

Soto also pointed out how much he loved the Boston Red Sox’s Dominican-heavy roster. “It’s a pretty good team, and it has a lot of Dominicans… They were pushing hard,” Soto said. And everyone remembers Big Papi being really all-in wanting Soto to come to the Red Sox. But in the end, Steve Cohen did something that dipped Soto on his side, and that’s bringing in a personal touch. Not deep pockets, but that sit-down at Cohen’s house is what helped the Mets seal the deal.

Now, for sure, the Mets fans are disappointed that the Soto magic is missing. But maybe patience is the key here. What do you think?
