Jon Favreau’s Next Disney+ Show After The Mandalorian Gets Release Date, Low Episode Count

At its D23 Expo, Disney+ revealed exciting new details about Jon Favreau’s upcoming TV series based on a legendary cartoon character. As announced previously, Favreau is directing Oswald, a live-action animated hybrid series based on Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Now, the studio has finally announced a release date for fans eager to see the show.

The Oswald miniseries will debut on Disney+ on February 17, 2027. The upcoming series will consist of three episodes. Favreau gave fans a sneak peek at the series at D23, showing a scene where an animated Oswald comes to life in Walt Disney’s office.

At the panel, Favreau revealed that Spanish animator Sergio Pablos worked on the series (via The Wrap). Pablos previously led animation work on films like Treasure Planet and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

What to expect from Oswald the Lucky Rabbit?

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks for Universal Pictures. However, after the studio took control of the character, Disney had to create a new mascot for the company, which became Mickey Mouse. The Walt Disney Company acquired the rights to the character in 2006, and Favreau is paving the way for Oswald’s grand comeback.

The show’s premise reads, “When an earthquake releases Walt Disney’s creation, Oswald, who has been hidden away since the 1920s, a middle school boy and his friends try to help the cartoon rabbit navigate his way through the modern world.”

Oswald is Favreau’s latest offering from the mouse house. After directing Iron Man and its sequel, Favreau has made several films based on Disney-owned characters, including The Jungle Book, The Lion King, and The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Oswald stars Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Ryder Allen, Al Madrigal, Kathryn Hahn, and Albert Brooks. It is directed by Jon Favreau, Jude Weng, and Andrew R. Jones, and is based on a screenplay by Jon Favreau. Karen Gilchrist, John Bartnic, Favreau, and R. Jones will serve as executive producers.

Oswald premieres on Disney+ in February 2027.
