Wondering why JoJo Siwa is facing backlash over her red carpet look at the iHeartRadio Music Awards? The former Dance Moms star made headlines for her towering, bejeweled wig, but controversy quickly followed after claims surfaced that she credited the design to her mother. Now, the wig’s actual creator is speaking out about being ignored and unpaid.

Here’s what the stylist revealed about the incident and Siwa’s response.

JoJo Siwa accused of crediting her mom for wig instead of stylist

JoJo Siwa appeared at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards wearing a towering wig with gem-covered horns and a pink charm.

On the red carpet, she told iHeartRadio she found the wig on Etsy. She also credited her mother for making part of the outfit (via People). Media outlets later reported that her mother had made the entire headpiece.

The wig stylist who created the piece spoke out online, saying he was not credited for his work. He claimed Siwa requested two wigs but only paid for one. “She told interviewers that her mom made the wig instead,” he wrote. In a Reddit comment, he said, “I got a bit depressed afterwards realizing my first time being exposed on the red carpet, all my credit and hard work had been taken from me.”

In a separate Instagram exchange, the stylist using the handle @barbiedicksofficial responded to a commenter by stating, “When I asked her what happened she ignored me and removed all her photos of the wig. Meanwhile she never paid me for her second commission.” This added to existing frustration over the lack of acknowledgment.

He later clarified that Siwa didn’t directly lie but that the misunderstanding stemmed from vague comments made on the carpet. According to him, Siwa said her mother made “this” while holding the jacket, but reporters interpreted it as the wig, leading to widespread misinformation. “Four or five different news outlets… started making up parts of a story to make their articles longer.”

The stylist also said he feared speaking out would harm his reputation. “I’ve been afraid to speak out about it out of fear of getting blacklisted in Hollywood.” As of now, Siwa has not responded publicly or settled the second wig payment.
