‘John Wick: Chapter 5′ confirmed by Lionsgate executive despite Keanu Reeves’ recent update

Lionsgate executive Jenefer Brown has confirmed that a fifth John Wick film is in the works, despite Keanu Reeves recently dismissing the prospect of reprising his role.

Reeves’ iconic hitman seemingly died at the end of 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4, leading many to assume that the core instalments of the franchise had come to a natural conclusion.

However, in addition to Ballerina – the upcoming spin-off starring Ana de Armas – and a number of other side projects, it appears a fifth John Wick film is also on its way. And there’s still a chance Reeves could feature, according to Brown.

“This world continues to grow and expand in incredible ways,” Brown told ComicBook about the franchise’s future. “Up next, of course, we have Ballerina, which is our first spin-off movie and [we] can’t wait for that to release to the world.”

She continued: “Of course, we’ve announced we’re working on a fifth John Wick film. I think there are more spin-offs to come, a TV series, video game.”

When pressed about Reeves’ potential involvement in the fifth film, she said: “We’ve shared that we’re developing a fifth John Wick film … [John Wick] may be [dead]. We are all on bated breath waiting to find out.”

Just last week, Reeves himself dismissed the idea of John Wick returning for a direct sequel, saying: “You know, the character’s dead. I know, in Hollywood you can… I know, I know, it’s the Hollywood story. Right now, there isn’t [a planned sequel]”.

Recently, another John Wick spin-off was revealed to be in the works, with Donnie Yen starring and directing. The action star said: “I try to do my best to bring something fresh to the franchise itself. I don’t want to bring down the expectations for the fans. I try to do my best, like always”
