The Tates are in absolute turmoil over in Emmerdale.
The tragic death of Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) has rocked the clan to its foundations, with Joe Tate’s (Ned Porteous) grief manifesting in the most hideous of ways, with him driven purely by the desire to see those who he feels have wronged him pay.
Caleb and Ruby Miligan (William Ash and Beth Cordingly) were first on his hitlist after Joe learned they’d conspired with Dawn’s ex, Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle), to destroy their wedding and ensure that Joe was left alone and unable to locate either Dawn or their baby.
Joe responded by burying Ruby alive, later drugging and taunting Caleb with the fact that his beloved wife was locked in a box underground, fast running out of air and dangerously close to suffocating, and had it not been for the intervention of Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), she might well have.
Next, Joe ensured that Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) received an extra-long sentence for being the cause of the accident, paying off a judge to treat him harshly in court.
In the midst of all of this, he’s broken the hearts of step-grandma Kim Tate (Claire King) and surrogate father, Graham, regarding the fate of his baby son, insisting on having him adopted and not be allowed any contact with his biological family, necessitating Kim and Graham to take the baby and hide him away.
While he’s refocused on the Miligans, hiring uber-bitch Sadie King (Patsy Kensit) to aid him in tearing them apart, an earlier victim of his wrath, Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) is trying to make amends.
Gabby was the person who called Vinny, who answered the phone and, while distracted, veered into the wrong lane, causing Jimmy to swerve and kick off all of the carnage that ensued.
As the mother of Thomas Tate, Kim’s grandson by way of her son, Jamie (Alexander Lincoln), Gabby has been effectively taken in by the Tate clan, living at Home Farm and enjoying a close relationship with Kim.
That all came to an end, though, when Joe learned of her role in the crash and instantly put an ultimatum to Kim – either she go or he would.
Concerned with Joe’s increasingly fractious state, Kim asked Gabby to leave, and she moved back in with former step mum, Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy).
Joe continues to suffer next week as Kim remains steadfast in her attempt to keep baby Tate’s location a secret from him, while her secret daughter, Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) has her own agenda regarding the youngster.
Later in the week, Gabby attempts to rebuild the charred bridge between herself and Joe.
Trying to empathise with the grief that’s consuming him, Gabby approaches Joe, but it’s to no avail; he’s still too raw and she finds herself instantly rebuffed.
Can Gabby ever find a way back into the good graces of the Tate family?
