Down 3-1, the Celtics just can’t quit, and they showed it big time. Boston came out swinging in Game 5, and by the second half, it felt like the Knicks were just trying to hang on. Derrick White was lights out, Jaylen Brown was in attack mode, and everyone else? They just followed the lead. The bench gave them juice, the defense clicked, and suddenly this didn’t look like a team on the brink but like a team waking up.
Kristaps Porzingis could barely breathe, but still checked in for 12 gritty minutes and gave Boston what he could. “He couldn’t breathe. He was available if absolutely necessary,” Joe Mazzulla said. Turns out, KP thought it was necessary, and that says everything. The two decided at halftime to shut him down, but the expectation is he’ll be back for Game 6. Porzingis showed up when he didn’t have to, and that kind of presence sure doesn’t go unnoticed.
In a statement-making Game 5, the Celtics crushed the Knicks 127-102 to keep their hopes alive and shift the momentum heading back to New York. This series was supposed to be over, but nope, Boston’s got some fight left. If they keep this fire, the next game sure is going to be a battle. Who said a 3-1 comeback was impossible? Not the Celtics, that’s for sure.
