Joe Burrow Gives Up As Maths Behind Bengals’ Playoffs Path Revealed

3 weeks ago 6

It’s now or never. The Bengals started their season a little slow. They lost the first 3 games of the season. With 4 wins and 7 losses, they are in the 3rd position in the AFC North. Their quarterback, Joe Burrow, is the center of attention. Everyone is waiting for his next moves.

While talking to reporters during a press conference on November 27, Burrow revealed his plans for the remaining games. He didn’t show any fear of loss and said, “I’m not worried about the playoffs at this point. You know, I’m worried about trying to play my best. Be as consistent as I can get our offense to an even higher level and continue to you know create big plays, put points on the board and I’m just focused on trying to be the best that I can be.” That’s the right approach.

The Bungles wouldn’t like to get out of the postseason contention with 6 games to go. But, this has been their story this year. While everyone had questions about Joe Burrow’s surgically repaired wrist, his performance has silenced everyone. The signal caller has been amazing, but the rest of the team hasn’t been the same. In 11 games in 2024, he has 274 of 408 passes (67.2% completion rate) in 3,028 passing yards with 27 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.

After week 12, with a 2nd position in the ESPN’s quarterback ratings, he must be feeling good. However, there’s a catch. If they won’t qualify for the playoffs, these ratings will not matter. That’s what he must be thinking as well during the presser.

For those of you who didn’t know it, here are the updated scenarios for their playoff qualification scenarios.

Can Bengals qualify for the postseason?

The Bungles are currently in the 10th position in the AFC North. The best they can do is win all their next games and get 10 wins on the table. Here’s how the other teams need to perform if they need to qualify. Then other teams need to have 9 wins only.

With 8 wins each, their divisional rivals, Steelers and Ravens are sitting on top of them in the AFC North division. But with 3 losses, the Black and the Gold are on the top while Ravens have 4 defeats. So, the Steelers need to lose 4 out of the remaining 6 which seems improbable. The Ravens will be out of the wild card spot if they lose 3 out of the remaining 5 games.

Two teams from the AFC West, Broncos and Chargers, are in the wild card group, at 6th & 7th position, below the Ravens. Broncos have a 7-5 win-loss record and need to lose 3 of 5 games they are yet to play. However, the Chargers are 7-4 and must have 4 out of 6 defeats.

But Joe Burrow & Co. has their best bets on Miami Dolphins (8th) and Indianapolis Colts (9th). Both have 5 wins each. Out of the remaining 6 games, the Phins need to lose 4 games, but the Colts will be out if they lose 3 out of 5 games.

The maths is mind-boggling. But there’s still a tiny beacon of hope in the hearts of Who Dey Nation. Maybe they can pull it off?
