The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Coronation Street dated October 1. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube.
Jodie Ramsey’s (Olivia Frances-Brown) obsession with David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) has taken a very dark turn in Coronation Street today.
The character, for some reason, believes that she is entitled to the life her sister Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) is living.
This week, Jodie spent time with David at the salon. He was doing her hair prior to a date, but got guilt-tripped into hanging out with her for longer when Jodie revealed that her date had been cancelled.
Their interaction was spotted by Jodie and Shona’s dad, Doug (Steve Evets), who sensed that Jodie was up to no good.
Jodie arrived home with a bunch of flowers in today’s episode and was immediately questioned by Doug over them. Jodie revealed that David bought the flowers, and then proceeded to tell her dad that they’ve been secretly seeing each other.
Jodie claimed that the connection she has with David has been too difficult to ignore. She then told Doug that they intend to tell Shona about their relationship after her birthday.
In order to prevent Doug from telling Shona everything, Jodie got a step ahead by switching his mental health medication.
Later, Jodie revealed to Shona that she’s got another date and wondered if she could borrow one of her t-shirts.
We then found Jodie in the bedroom…in Shona’s wedding dress! She was smiling in the mirror, thrilled with how she looked.
Her plan is getting darker – but what will Jodie’s next move be?
‘She practically worships Shona’ Olivia Frances-Brown previously shared, discussing the complicated dynamic between Jodie and Shona.
‘So much so that they’ve got matching tattoos. But those feelings are mixed with animosity that comes from childhood abandonment.’
‘Jodie idolises Shona so much that she literally wants to step into her shoes, take over her life and know what that feels like.’ Olivia explains.
‘By taking over David, the house, the role with Harper – she genuinely wants to know how it feels to be Shona.
‘She loves her sister, but she wishes Shona had treated her differently throughout her life. There’s a deep need to get her own back and have some sort of revenge. As much as she cares about their relationship, she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get the happiness she feels she deserves.’
