New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields has been ruled out for the team’s Week 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed on Wednesday.
Fields has been in the league’s concussion protocol since leaving the team’s Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills.
Fields was knocked backward when he was sacked by Bills pass rusher Joey Bosa in the fourth quarter, and the back of his helmet hit the turf. He was down for a few minutes before he was able to get up and walk off under his own power.
He was checked out in the injury tent on the Jets’ sideline and emerged several minutes later with a towel over his head. Tyrod Taylor would come in to replace Fields with 12:03 remaining in the game.
Taylor is not in line to start for the Jets after going 7-of-11 for 56 yards, including a five-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Ruckert. Taylor joined the Jets on a two-year deal last season to be Aaron Rodgers’ backup.
The 36-year-old has 58 career starts in the NFL. The last came during the 2023 season, when he started five games for the New York Giants.
