For the first time in a decade, one player has collected both the Hart and Vezina Trophies in the same season.

Winnipeg Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck was named the NHL’s most valuable player and top goalie for the 2024-25 season, the league announced on Thursday.

He was presented with the two awards while on a fishing trip in Michigan.

The last goalie to capture both accolades in one season was Carey Price in 2014-15. Hellebuyck is the fifth goalie ever to accomplish the feat.

Hellebuyck collected 31 first-place and one second-place vote for the Vezina, with the only other first-place vote going to Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Meanwhile, for the Hart, the Jets goaltender received 81 first, 45 second, 30 third, 22 fourth and five fifth-place votes to finish with 1,346 points — 137 more than the second-place Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers.

It’s also his third Vezina Trophy after also claiming the honours in 2020 and 2024, joining Hall of Famers Martin Brodeur, Ken Dryden, Tony Esposito, Dominik Hasek, Jacques Plante and Patrick Roy in an elite club of three-time winners.

But this was the 32-year-old Hellebuyck’s best season yet as he led Winnipeg to its first-ever Presidents’ Trophy with 116 points.

The Commerce, Mich., native set a career-high with 47 wins, only the fifth goalie to hit that mark. In 63 games this year, he led the league with a 2.00 goals-against average and eight shutouts. His .925 save percentage was good for second overall.

Winnipeg was ultimately eliminated in the second round of the playoffs against the Dallas Stars.

Other players nominated for MVP included Edmonton’s Draisaitl and Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov.

Draisaitl, from Cologne, Germany, led the NHL with 52 goals to win the Rocket Richard Trophy and added 54 assists for 106 points, helping Edmonton finish third in the Pacific Division. He previously won the Hart in 2020.

Kucherov, from Maykop, Russia, topped the NHL with 121 points to capture his third Art Ross Trophy. The 2019 Hart winner helped Tampa Bay reach the playoffs for the eighth straight season.

The other nominees for the Vezina as top goalie were Tampa Bay’s Vasilevskiy and Los Angeles’s Darcy Kuemper.

Vasilevskiy, who won the Vezina in 2019, made 63 starts for the Lightning, posting a .921 save percentage and six shutouts after his save percentage dipped to just .900 last season.

Kuemper revived his career after an off-season trade to the Kings. He won 31 of his 50 starts and posted a 2.02 goals-against average and .921 save percentage with five shutouts.

Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers follows at 8 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. MT. The Panthers lead the series 2-1.
