Jesse Eisenberg has shared a fresh update on Zombieland 3. The actor says one key cast member could decide when it finally happens. While the update reveals that a third Zombieland movie may still be on the table, fans shouldn’t expect it anytime soon. Jesse Eisenberg recently joked that while the sequel’s timeline depends on one of his co-stars, a 2029 release remains the target mentioned by the franchise’s director.
Jesse Eisenberg says Zombieland 3 is basically up to Emma Stone
Eisenberg reunited with Zombieland: Double Tap co-star Zoey Deutch while promoting Minions & Monsters, a prequel in the Despicable Me franchise. During an interview with ScreenRant, the pair looked back on working together and joked about teaming up again. When asked if another reunion would happen before Zombieland 3, Deutch playfully replied, “That’s up to you, Jesse.”
The conversation quickly turned to Deutch’s character from Zombieland: Double Tap, Madison. After the two jokingly debated whether Madison has managed to continue surviving, Eisenberg laughed and said, “Perfect, then you’d be in the third one.” Deutch fired back, “That’s up to you. You’re the boss.” While the exchange was lighthearted, it hinted both actors are open to returning if another sequel gets the green light.
However, fans shouldn’t expect Zombieland 3 anytime soon. Director Ruben Fleischer has said he’d like the next movie to land in 2029, sticking with the franchise’s tradition of waiting about 10 years between releases. Even if that’s the plan, making it happen won’t be easy. The sequel would need to line up the schedules of the original cast, including Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, and Jesse Eisenberg. That could be the biggest challenge, especially with Stone staying in high demand and constantly juggling major projects.
The well-loved franchise started back in 2009, when Zombieland introduced Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock, four unlikely survivors who slowly became a family while navigating a zombie-filled world. Ruben Fleischer directed the film and its sequel, with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick writing the scripts.
