Jerry Jones is all set for 2025, as he might’ve just struck gold again. After the NFL Draft, they didn’t waste time signing Syracuse linebacker Justin Barron, dropping a $20K signing bonus and offering him a hefty $234K if he lands on the practice squad. That’s no small risk. And it shows the Dallas Cowboys still believe in finding hidden talent where others overlook it. They’ve done it before, and they’re hoping Barron’s the next in line to shine, especially with the linebacker unit still settling. But make no mistake. Jones and his team have their eyes on someone else. We are talking about star linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, as Dallas is quietly counting down the days until he is back. And guess what? A positive update has already come.
It’s tough not to feel for Overshown. The kid went down hard in Week 14, and what followed was one of the worst injuries a football player can face. He tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL, all in the same knee. That’s three out of the four major ligaments gone in one chance. His leg got caught under a Bengals lineman, and hence, his season ended. The only thing holding up was his LCL, which somehow stayed intact. Definitely, it’s a long road back from something like that, but Jerry Jones’ LB is determined to come back, however with regret.
A regret? Yes! That’s how it feels to him when the LB shared his video of highlights from his Texas days of 2021 on his official X account. In the clip, the 24-year-old could be seen sacking and intercepting his opponents in his bulldog style. Although every tackle was extremely mind-blowing, Overshown still regrets not tallying more sacks. That’s why he wrote in the caption: “I be watching highlights and realize if I just would’ve blitzed more…easily would’ve tallied more sacks. ‘21 very underrated year while playing with turf toe most of the year.”

The clip was first posted in February 2022, with the bold caption, “Coming into ’22 bigger and better.” And honestly, he backed it up. During his Texas run, he showed up in big 50 games with 33 starts, tallying 249 tackles, 30.5 for loss, 9 sacks, 18 pass breakups, 3 fumble recoveries, and 3 interceptions in total. That effort earned him first-team All-Big 12 honors in his final year.
Fast forward to now, he’s healing from that brutal injury, but there’s hope. According to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, Jerry Jones’ linebacker is “progressing well,” and there’s a real chance we see him return midseason. This was also evident when he dropped a Thanksgiving teaser on Instagram recently. He shared a graphic post featuring Patrick Mahomes ahead of their holiday showdown. With that, he wrote a caption: “Oh yeah, I’m active in this.”
Yeah, he’s eyeing that Kansas City Chiefs game on November 27, and he looks ready to hunt. Let’s see if he brings the heat when it counts after making history by wearing that No. 0 jersey. No doubt Jerry Jones has high hopes for the linebacker, as his team is all set to achieve big in 2025. But will they? As per a former columnist, the team is not!
Jerry Jones’ draft season didn’t end well?
Jerry Jones’ Cowboys added nine new players over three days in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, as per Paul Finebaum, many moves by the team made him upset. On his show, the SEC Network analyst gave an “A- grade” to the Cowboys’ draft class this year. In addition, he said, “There’s not much that I’ve seen from Jerry Jones that impresses me. I think (George) Pickens was a good move. I like Dak (Prescott), myself. He needs to stay healthy, though.”
But the major part of concern for Finebaum was Jones promoting Brian Schottenheimer to head coach. According to him, the guy’s never even called plays before. Yes, he’s the son of legendary coach Marty Schottenheimer, but that doesn’t guarantee success. Finebaum basically said it out loud – just when you think Jerry might get it right, he finds a way to blow it.
Jerry Jones didn’t just buy the Cowboys in ’89, he came in swinging. The team was at rock bottom, coming off a brutal 3-13 season, and he made a bold move by firing the iconic Tom Landry. It upset a lot of people, but Jones saw a vision. He brought in Jimmy Johnson, and though the start was rough-1-15 rough-it led to back-to-back Super Bowl wins. That partnership eventually fell apart, egos clashed, and Johnson was out. Barry Switzer took over and gave them another title in ’95. But since then? Nothing. No NFC Championship appearances, and a lousy 5-13 playoff record.
