Things got heated when the New York Knicks faced off against the Detroit Pistons on the road. The game itself featured a high degree of competition. The scrappy nature that defines Detroit’s style exuded during the first playoff action in Detroit since 2019. And in typical fashion, emotions also went into overload. The Pistons’ fighting spirit also got defeated by the Knicks’ stardom.
After snapping a 15-game losing streak in the postseason only a few nights ago, these nights can be demoralizing for teams. The Pistons though, are coming from being the last-placed team only one season ago. To them, what matters is being in the playoffs and battling to the very end. So, although they went through a controversial and tiring game, J.B. Bickerstaff isn’t backing down.
“We won’t be deflated. You know our guys are too committed to one another. You know we’re not results-driven. We’ll show up Sunday. We’re going to lay it on the line. We’re going to fight like hell and see what happens,” the Pistons head coach said about an impending Game 4 that awaits their building.
That’s how Detroit basketball has always been. They embrace the element of defiance. After having been the laughing stock for so many years, this looks to be an era of upliftment for the Pistons. They lost a dog fight tonight. But best believe when Game 4 comes around, their will to take down the Knicks will be elevated.

Especially with how the game ended tonight. The Pistons kept digging into the Knicks’ second-half lead. However, a contentious ruling against Brunson going into the back court sparked a lot of heat on the court. To the Pistons, that could be the fuel they need.
A rare Cade Cunningham moment
Cade Cunningham took center stage for his team once again. The franchise keystone did some of everything with 24 points, 11 assists, and four steals to keep the gritty Pistons in the game till the end. For him, the passion of transforming the Pistons might be the strongest. Their former first-round pick has said, “There is a different satisfaction knowing that you worked for something. So, I wouldn’t want to do it with a different city than Detroit. I think they deserve to have a winning team. I want to be a part of that,”.
He’s still able to keep his emotions in check. But with this being his first playoff experience, Cunningham’s competitive fire has also grown. And as the intensity leaked during Game 3, so did his emotions.
At one point, the two star guards of the series came face-to-face. Jalen Brunson and Cunningham seemed to have an animated argument where the official had to step in to calm the madness. Brunson’s father, Rock Brunson, who is an assistant coach with the Knicks, also seemed to take exception, pointing fingers at the Pistons guard for the exchange with his son.

Nonetheless, these moments are part and parcel of the postseason craze, which consumes both players and fans. The Knicks-Pistons series, in particular, is turning out to be an exhilarating series. You can expect more of this gladiator spirit from both sides in Game 4. Maybe tempers will flare again, too.
That’s just the urge of the players and teams to move further into the playoffs. Who do you think will prevail? Let us know your views in the comments below.
