Brian Daboll has had this same play in his playbook for years. Normally, the tight end (Theo Johnson) would run straight up the field on a route. But the New York Giants were starting with rookie Jaxson Dart against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. And Dart was entering the game after watching film, where he noticed how the defense tends to leave an open spot in the zone.

Fast forward to the game day, and he told the tight end not to run deep and just sit down in the soft spot. Theo adjusted, sat in that zone, the rookie QB hit him, and it turned into a big gain.
