A recent claim made by producer Basil Iwanyk, who is best known for the John Wick franchise, is key to unpacking the performance of Jason Statham's new movie, Mutiny. Iwanyk said that films starring Statham and Gerard Butler must not be judged on the basis of their domestic box-office performance. Even a movie that grosses $13 million domestically, he said, is ultimately going to make money through ancillary revenue streams. Statham and Butler's movies, you see, are unusually popular on home-video services such as PVOD and streaming. And this year's Shelter and Greenland 2: Migration — both movies were directed by Ric Roman Waugh — have had successful resurgences at home following seemingly underwhelming box-office runs. Shelter, starring Statham, grossed less than $13 million domestically, while Greenland 2, starring Butler, made $17 million.
