The former Guardians Of The Galaxy director is overseeing a reboot of the DC universe of characters, which began on the big screen with this summer’s Superman and will continue next year with Supergirl and Clayface. A Superman sequel, Man Of Tomorrow, is scheduled for 2027.

Batman is yet to make an appearance in the franchise, which exists in a separate timeline to The Batman starring Robert Pattinson. However, an adaptation of The Brave And The Bold storyline is in development, which sees Batman fighting alongside his son, Damian Wayne, who takes on the mantle of Robin.

In a new interview with IGN, Gunn refuted the idea that the actor playing Batman in the film would need to be in his mid-to-late 30s, given he would have a son old enough to fight alongside him. “No, I think you have to wait to see the movie” he replied. “Some things have changed. Plenty of things are in flux on what his situation is with his parentage and all that stuff, so I wouldn’t take any of it (for granted).”

He then spoke about the demand from actors who all want to play The Caped Crusader. “Listen, first of all, I can’t tell you the amount of big actors that have told me they want to be Batman,” Gunn continued. “I think you’d have a harder time finding actors who don’t want to be Batman. He’s the one character everyone wants to play. That’s the truth.”

Recently, pictures from the set of forthcoming DC film Clayface suggest The Joker could be included in the film.
