Dorsey teased the developments in a recent post on X, referencing upcoming features such as transaction verification, fingerprint reset, and private wallet balances.

The announcement was accompanied by a new blog post from Max Guise, Bitkey’s lead developer, who shared a detailed roadmap of the planned updates.

Security Upgrades: Transaction Verification and Cold Wallet Option

According to Guise, a transaction-verification feature will go live by mid-2025, helping users confirm their transactions independently. The Bitkey team is also exploring hardware-based verification methods and an optional cold wallet configuration for customers who are comfortable trading ease of use for higher levels of security.

“These are complex projects, and our next step is to publish a technical proposal and solicit feedback – look out for this over the summer,” Guise stated.

Additionally, a secure fingerprint reset feature is scheduled for release in May.

Focus on Privacy: Invisible Balances and Anonymous Purchasing

Bitkey will also introduce private wallet balances, enabling users to retain the benefits of collaborative custody without sharing transaction or balance visibility. Guise described this feature as a “major unlock” for users who value privacy in their financial dealings.

The wallet will further support anonymous purchasing options, allowing customers to buy Bitkey devices without revealing personal data like a home or billing address. Users will be able to pick up their orders from thousands of retail locations in the U.S., and an option to buy Bitkey using Bitcoin will also be available.

“These privacy upgrades are on the near-term horizon,” Guise added, suggesting the rollout will follow closely after the transaction-verification release in mid-year.
