It’s Raining Manga (Hallelujah) in April’s New Releases

Gotta admit, I’m a killjoy who does not particularly enjoy spring. Sure, the warm weather is nice, but I don’t like bugs, or allergies, or being woken up by sunshine and birdsong at six in the morning. But there is one nice thing about the changing seasons, and you can probably guess what it is: another new month means another round of new comics and graphic novels for us to enjoy!

Below, you’ll find everything you need to pick up these exciting new titles, including buy links and the release dates as they were reported at the time of writing. And yes, there are several manga and manga-adjacent titles for you to consider — I made sure I earned that song reference! — including both the end of one series and the debuts of several others. You can also check out the continuation of established non-manga series and standalone adventures that deal with important issues like religion and acceptance in tones ranging from adorable to heartfelt.

I always try to spotlight a nice variety of story types and topics in this list, so hopefully, you will be able to find at least one title that suits your taste among these April new releases!

The Cartoonists Club by Raina Telgemeier and Scott McCloud (April 1) These two giants of comicdom bring us the story of four kids who each have their own strengths and challenges as creators. Can they help each other make the comic of their collective dreams?

Moriarty the Patriot Volume Nineteen by Ryosuke Takeuchi and Hikaru Miyoshi (April 1) It’s no April Fool’s Day joke: Moriarty the Patriot ends this month with both Moriarty and Sherlock Holmes racing towards their inevitable destinies.

Hey, Mary! by Andrew Wheeler and Rye Hickman (April 15) As Mark struggles to figure out if he can retain his Catholic faith while also being gay, he receives help and advice from people in his community and famous religious figures from throughout history.

Outsider Kids by Betty C. Tang (April 15) In this sequel to the excellent Parachute Kids, the Lin siblings are still on their own, waiting for the parents’ visas to come through. In the meantime, an unwelcome visit from a snobby cousin threatens to derail their newfound stability.
