A 10-0 record at home, Magness Arena. A conference record of 4-2, whereas the away numbers are 1-5-1. That’s what the University of Denver gymnastics claimed this year. At the end, the program ended up in the top 15. That’s historical, though, as it was the 11th time in a row the program entered the top 15. Magnificent record for a college gymnastics program! The program ultimately played its last gymnastics meet in the postseason on April 5 in the NCAA Regional final in Utah, where Utah and UCLA claimed the entry ticket for the semifinal. Denver just ended up being third. Is it a bad performance overall? The fans might have something to say. But things aren’t good in the Pioneers’ camp.

On April 22, the Pioneers’ assistant gymnastics coach, Stephen Hood, dropped a long post on Instagram, announcing his exit from the program. Known as a key pillar behind the program’s consistent success, Hood’s announcement actually came out of the blue. In 2025, he served his third year in his job, and he was expected to continue in his job. But things are now on a different side with his announcement.

Taking to Instagram, Stephen Hood called his tenure in Denver gymnastics an unforgettable ride. “After an unforgettable ride, I’ve made the decision to move on from my role at the University of Denver,” his words read. However, despite thanking the authorities and other stakeholders for believing him, Hood left something of a suspense in his post. Such as? His subsequent words read, “This next step is bittersweet, but I believe in finishing well and starting fresh.” Humble words? However, on April 21, Linas Gaveika, Denver women’s gymnastics associate head coach, also resigned. Anything to connect the dots?
