Initial Data Suggest Decrease In Black Freshman At Selective Colleges
- A new analysis shows that of 22 selective-admissions institutions, 20 showed declines in the the share of enrolled black freshmen in the years since the Supreme Court banned race-conscious admissions. Nine saw declines of 30% or more. Ever since the Supreme Court decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard and UNC-Chapel Hill (SFFA) banned the use of race-conscious college admissions, speculation has turned to the impact the ruling would have on the racial composition of incoming classes, particularly at selective institutions, essentially the only schools where consideration of race played a role in admission decisions prior to SFFA....
