Influential Dubstep Artist Joker Releases First Solo Tracks in Six Years: Listen

8 months ago 21

One of the dons of dubstep has returned with his first solo music in over six years.

Joker is perhaps best known for "Purple City," an influential dubstep track released back in 2009 alongside Ginz. He's now returned with a vengeance by virtue of a pair of new singles, "Juggernaut" and "S Wave."

A track as powerful as it sounds, "Juggernaut" stands as a masterful display of the pioneering producer's ability to blend nostalgia with forward-thinking production. It's underpinned by haunting, spectral synths that set the stage for the main event, a ripping bassline that tears through the mix with unrelenting force. This central element is reminiscent of the early days of dubstep while feeling entirely contemporary.

On the flip side, "S Wave" takes us on a different but equally exhilarating journey. The track is a showcase of menacing synths anchored by stomping percussion and relentless basslines, which drive the arrangement forward with a momentum that's tough to resist.

Along with his latest original work, Joker was notably featured on "Tears," a fan-favorite cut from Skrillex's 2023 comeback album, Quest for Fire

"Juggernaut" and "S Wave" are out now via Joker's Kapsize Records. You can listen to both tracks below and purchase limited vinyl prints on Bandcamp.
