The project, co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, now faces scrutiny after reports of questionable activities involving its World ID program.

Authorities cited violations of local digital regulations. Two affiliated local companies—PT. Terang Bulan Abadi and PT. Sandina Abadi Nusantara—must now answer to the ministry for possible rule breaches.

Unregistered Operators Raise Red Flags

On Sunday, the ministry released a statement announcing the suspension. Officials revealed that PT. Terang Bulan Abadi lacks registration as a legal electronic system operator. The company also used another entity’s permit to run services—a move the government considers a major violation.

“This is a preventive measure to protect the public,” said Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Supervision.

Legal and Digital Oversight Tightens

The ministry’s investigation is ongoing. Officials stressed that operating without proper documentation, and under another entity’s name, breaches national law.

The case adds new pressure on Worldcoin, which already faces global questions about its biometric data practices.
