Iâm Game Release Postponed: Dulquer Salmaanâs Action Thriller Gets New September Date

Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming action thriller I’m Game will no longer arrive in theatres on August 20 as originally planned. The makers have officially announced that the film has been pushed by two weeks and will now release worldwide on September 3.

The delay comes with an expanded theatrical strategy, with the team planning a simultaneous release across five languages. Alongside its original Malayalam version, I’m Game will now be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada, signalling an attempt to take the film to a wider audience across India and overseas. The makers announced the change on Thursday, saying, “The game gets bigger. The release gets wider.”

The team also apologised to audiences for the postponement, explaining that the additional time would allow the film to reach more markets and receive the theatrical scale they believe it warrants. The announcement effectively takes I’m Game out of the busy Onam release window and gives it a separate release date in early September.

A wider game for Dulquer Salmaan

Directed by Nahas Hidhayath, who made his feature debut with the 2023 action film RDX, I’m Game marks Dulquer’s return to Malayalam cinema as a leading man after King of Kotha. The new film puts the actor in a markedly different space, with gambling and the psychology of risk forming the foundation of his character.

Dulquer plays Dan John, a man who approaches gambling with a firm belief in patterns and algorithms rather than conventional ideas of luck. The premise gives the film an intriguing hook, particularly as it places its protagonist in a world where calculation, risk and uncertainty are likely to collide.


The cast adds further interest to the project. Antony Varghese, Tamil filmmaker Mysskin, Kathir, Kayadu Lohar and Samyuktha Viswanathan feature in key roles, bringing together performers from different corners of South Indian cinema.

I’m Game is also produced by Dulquer under his Wayfarer Films banner, continuing his involvement in Malayalam cinema beyond his work in front of the camera. The film features cinematography by Jimshi Khalid, editing by Chaman Chacko and music by Jakes Bejoy. Action choreography comes from the duo Anbariv, while Ajayan Chalissery is credited with production design.

From RDX to a multilingual release

The project reunites audiences with the filmmaking sensibilities of Nahas Hidhayath after RDX, which established him as a filmmaker with a strong interest in action-driven storytelling. For I’m Game, however, the director is working with a considerably larger canvas and a leading actor with an established following across multiple language markets.

The film's multilingual release could prove particularly significant for Dulquer, whose career in recent years has increasingly crossed regional boundaries. The decision to release I’m Game in five languages appears designed to build on that pan-Indian appeal rather than limiting the film to the traditional Malayalam theatrical circuit.

The film reportedly underwent an extensive production schedule, with filming spanning 156 days across more than 100 locations in South India.

With the new September 3 date, I’m Game now has additional room to build its theatrical campaign while positioning itself as a major multilingual action release. For Dulquer, it also marks the long-awaited return to a Malayalam leading role, making the film one of the more closely watched releases from the actor this year.
