The winner of Channel 4’s The Inheritance, Cam, was shocked when he won, but he always knew what he wanted to do with the prize money.

The 28-year-old scaffolder from Yorkshire secured the whopping £100,000 jackpot in the tense finale on Tuesday night after spending weeks convincing his fellow players that he deserved the fortune.

The show’s premise brought 13 contestants to a grand stately home where a wealthy deceased benefactor (played by Elizabeth Hurley) was offering up their will to the lucky winner – all guided by the Executor aka Rob Rinder.

Throughout a series of tasks (known as requests) and heated late-night debates, each person must prove why they are the most deserving and then convince the others to vote for them.

In the end, it came down to Emma, Hafsah, Hannah, Jesse and Cam, with the latter ultimately swooping to victory, even if he ‘couldn’t believe it’ as he told Metro.

But, after such an intense bonding experience, he knew what the right thing to do with the jackpot was.

He said: ‘I’d always wanted a fair ending to it, because, despite disagreements, we’d really struggled together through these requests, and we’d all put our best in.

‘I thought everyone needs to be rewarded, but when that 100 grand is in front of you, you do get a bit tempted. But I’m glad that I did what I did.’

There’s no doubt that after ‘absolutely knackering’ 16-hour days together, the cast grew close.

‘There is such a strong bond between all of us despite all the drama and chaos. Everyone does have each other’s backs, and it’s really nice to see,’ he explained.

After divvying up the prize, Cam went home with £30k, wedding planner Hannah and student Jesse received £28,200 each, marketing manager Hafsah pocketed £27,700, and paramedic Emma secured £23,800.

He joked that although some of his mates were shocked, his family were ‘proud of him’ and had no doubt that it was going to be his final decision.

As for what Cam plans to do with his portion, he’s ready to pay off all his debts and start afresh.

He shared: ‘As soon as the money does land in my bank account, I am there. I’m just going to pay everything off straight away, and I’ve been so excited to do that. I’m just going to do it all in one big hit.’

With the remaining money, he’s hoping to build on his budding social media career by putting his coins towards travelling.

‘I’ve got such a passion for creating videos and entertaining people so I’m they’re going to use the remainder of the money to go and do traveling, making videos and really trying to get my personality across.’

As a scaffolder by day, Cam is not used to having to advocate for himself in the way the show demanded, and it’s definitely a skill he learnt on the fly.

He shared: ‘It’s unnatural to sell yourself so much every single day. But I think that’s what makes [the show] really special, because not only do you do the hard work, but then you have to sell yourself at the end of the day. It’s such a cool concept.’

Later adding: ‘You really did think, “well, it’s now or never.” So you either do it or you don’t. Shy kids get no sweets, and you’ve just got to do it,’ he reflected.

As for his secret to success, he said: ‘I just applied what I do in life. I stay out of drama if people are going at each other. I just tried to keep morale high and really just put my best effort into the requests. [Then you] sail on straight through.’

Spending the days on set with Rob, he admitted that his presence did ‘terrify him’ a little because he was ‘ridiculously professional’.

Now the show is over, there’s something far more valuable than the money that he’s taken from it.

‘It’s given me the confidence to say, if I’ve done something, I’m going to take credit for it,’ he concluded.

All episodes of The Inheritance are streaming on Channel 4.
