In 2013, Pokémon entered its sixth generation with the release of its first games on the 3DS, Pokémon X and Y. It introduced many changes to the franchise, including 3D graphics, Fairy-type Pokémon, and a new gimmick called Mega Evolution. Utilizing special stones and a strong bond between humans and Pokémon, Mega Evolution allows certain Pokémon to undergo a temporary transformation, granting them an increase in power and, depending on the species, a change in types, abilities, and battle strategy.
