It seems like history is repeating itself this weekend, with pop-star The Weeknd's latest cinematic offering, Hurry Up Tomorrow, tanking with both audiences and critics. The musical thriller, directed by Trey Edward Shults, arrives just a couple of years after the widely trashed HBO series The Idol. Both projects saw The Weeknd, who now goes by his given name, Abel Tesfaye, playing exaggerated versions of himself. Both projects are also united by uniformly poor reception and underwhelming viewership. Hurry Up Tomorrow might not even crack the top five on the domestic box office charts this weekend, having earned even poorer reviews than The Idol did in 2023.
