The Carolina Hurricanes are getting a boost to their blue line.
Defenceman Jaccob Slavin has been activated from the injured reserve after missing the last 29 games with a lower-body injury, the team announced on Sunday.
Slavin was injured in Carolina’s second game of the season against the Philadelphia Flyers, missing a large portion of the third period and all of overtime in the Hurricanes’ 4-3 victory.
Selected 120th overall by Carolina in the 2012 NHL Draft, the 31-year-old is the team’s longest-tenured defenceman,
He made his debut with the team in the 2015-16 season.
Slavin holds the franchise record among defencemen in points, assists and shorthanded points (18), and ranks tied for the lead in both shorthanded goals (4) and overtime goals (3).
In 747 career games, Slavin has recorded 55 goals and 244 assists.
In a corresponding move, the team has assigned defenceman Joel Nystrom to the Chicago Wolves.
The 23-year-old made his NHL debut on Oct. 23 against the Colorado Avalanche. He has five assists in 24 games for the Hurricanes this season.
