Hulu’s 4-Part ‘Godfather’-Style Crime Epic Has the Mob Boss Tony Soprano Could Never Be

In the world of crime dramas, very few have had the impact of The Sopranos. The late, great Michael Gandolfiniplays Tony Soprano, a crime boss struggling to keep his empire and his family intact. Gandolfini's performance peeled back Tony's layers, revealing that beneath his tough-guy bravado is a front for dealing with deep depression. The Sopranos made HBO a pillar of primetime television and helped pave the way for other complex antiheroes like Mad Men's Don Draper and Breaking Bad's Walter White. However, a modern crime series features a protagonist who's more Machiavellian than Tony could ever hope to be.
