Hot Since 82’s latest album, Obsessions, features nine tracks that see him follow his instincts and explore sounds influenced by his roots.
Many artists have left a lasting impact on the house scene over the years, but few have done it quite like Hot Since 82. The UK DJ and producer has carved out significant space for himself over the years, not just in the studio and behind the decks, but also through his curation abilities as the head of his Knee Deep In Sound imprint. For the label’s latest release, Hot Since 82 has looked back to himself to drop off an absolute gem of an album, Obsessions.
Obsessions is out now across all platforms and sees Hot Since 82 look back to the days when he was coming up in the scene, playing long nights in small rooms and making music for himself, not for anyone else. Its nine tracks are filled to the brim with proper house grooves that drip with emotion and have a timeless aura.
“This album came from going back to my roots and making music for myself first; not for anyone else, and not worrying too much about where each track was supposed to sit,” Hot Since 82 shared on Instagram. “Some of it is underground, some of it is more direct, and there are a few different sides to it. That’s exactly what I wanted this record to be.”
“Life’s Too Short,” “Shaded” with Shades of Rhythm, and “Wow” all arrived in the lead-up to the release of Obsessions, and each helped showcase the gorgeous, dancefloor-ready soundscapes that would dominate the rest of the album. Powerful vocals, shuffling breakbeats, piano keys, and other meticulously placed elements are layered in to make each track stand tall.
The newly unveiled tunes build off those sublime sonic moments. “All That Matters” kicks off the ride in stunning fashion, with the other solo tune, “Who Do You Love,” acting as the penultimate chapter in the journey. Meanwhile, the vocal-driven “Eternity” with Zoe Kypri and “Another Life” with Lydia Kaye, along with the pair of tracks with Kuuda, “Time” and “State of Mind,” make this album leave a lasting impression.
