The controversy resurfaced after criticisms from DeFi platform Optim Finance alleging manipulation of the Cardano treasury — a claim Hoskinson has publicly denounced as baseless and defamatory.

In a recent post on X, Hoskinson called out what he described as a “slander cabal,” accusing critics of launching a coordinated campaign to undermine Cardano and its leadership. His remarks follow a heated exchange sparked by comments from Cardano community figures, including a tweet from AdaFrog, which criticized individuals using ADA from token sales to attack the broader ecosystem.

The core of the controversy relates to transactions made during the 2021 Allegra hard fork, with allegations suggesting that over $600 million in ADA may have been mishandled. Critics claim the funds were either redirected or improperly accessed, while Hoskinson asserts these accusations misrepresent technical and historical facts.

In response, Hoskinson confirmed that an independent audit is underway to clarify the chain of events. He emphasized that the majority of ADA questioned had been legally redeemed by original holders across a seven-year period, and no formal legal or regulatory violations have been cited.

While Cardano’s core team works to address the controversy, the incident highlights growing internal tensions within the ADA community — even as developers and contributors attempt to focus on long-term project stability.
