Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday’s (April 23) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on at 7pm.

Joel Dexter (Rory Douglas-Speed) was left reeling when Leela Dexter (Kirsty-Leigh Porter) delivered some huge news.

Leela had been at the hospital to speak to Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) when she stumbled upon Tommy Odenkirk (Brandon Fellows), who was watching in horror as the doctors worked on his brother Billy (Marcus Christopherson).

Billy, as viewers know, was a bully who belittled Tommy outside a nightclub on a particular night last year, with Joel subsequently intervening in the showdown.

Protecting Tommy, Joel – who was struggling with addiction at the time – punched Billy and wandered off, unaware of the fact that Billy ended up hitting his head off the staircase nearby.

He never regained consciousness.

Tommy later showed up in the village, hopeful of starting a bond with Joel, who he thinks of as his ‘brother’ due to his actions on that night. However, it’s quite clear that he’s using the night in question as a tool to maintain his role in Joel’s life.

Up Next

Fearing that Tommy would go to the police if he brushed him off, Joel has felt compelled to spend time with the supposed therapist, much to the dismay of Leela, who wants him out of the village.

Realising the game was up, Joel confessed to Leela about his role in Billy’s hospitalisation. Horrified, Leela instructed him to go to the police, otherwise they’ll be worried about what Tommy might do for the rest of their lives.

Joel resolved to do just that but, while at the hospital with Peri, Leela witnessed Billy crashing, with a concerned Tommy watching from the sidelines.

The firefighter raced over to the police station and, having had a change of heart in the wake of what she’d saw, she urged Joel to reconsider informing the police about putting Billy in a coma – because Billy is dead.
