Hell hath no fury like a scorned Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix), which is something the residents of Hollyoaks are set to find out the hard way after she escapes captivity next week.
The legendary soap schemer made a historic return from the dead last year, despite having seemingly met her demise over a decade earlier.
It didn’t take long for her to make her presence felt and she was partially to blame for the chaos that transpired as part of the Channel 4 serial’s 30th anniversary, which saw a plane strike the eponymous village.
But her crimes soon caught up with her as, despite her attempts to evade authorities, Clare was turned in by her own granddad Froggy Black (John Middleton), who tipped off the police about her whereabouts.
Clare swore that she would seek retribution and get her revenge one day and she is determined to keep that promise, with upcoming scenes seeing the villain managing to worm her way out of prison.
Clare Devine returns…
Froggy comes face-to-face with Clare in subsequent scenes, as confirmed in the recent Spring Trailer, and next week will see the village in a panic to learn that Clare is on the loose.
The hunt is on to locate her but Donny Clark (Louis Emerick) is left reeling to find her in his living room. Wanting the money he’s got, Clare insists he hand it over – otherwise she will tell everyone about his role in Griff’s demise.
Will Donny comply? That remains to be seen but Dodger Savage (Danny Mac) subsequently arrives, only to find out that Clare has already fled.
The week in question proves upsetting for Sienna Blake (Anna Passey), who learns that Sophie is jealous of Joseph – and later she discovers that Sophie has hit a boy.

Sienna promises that Sophie won’t do such a thing again – that she was only trying to defend her brother – but the emotional times just keep flowing for the florist as things take a grim turn.
Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin) isn’t pleased to hear Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) bragging about how Sophie hit a child and, as the adults are distracted, they fail to see Clare gaining entry to the car and speeding off with Tori.
And little does Clare know that baby Joseph is also in the vehicle!
Sophie, meanwhile, is in Warren’s car, having left Sienna’s in the hopes of retrieving her tablet.
When Sienna works out what has transpired, she and Warren head to said car and, with Sophie refusing to leave, the former flames are left with little choice but to allow their daughter to accompany them as they speed off in pursuit of Clare.
The question is: will they catch Clare? The Spring Trailer teases a dramatic showdown but who will come out victorious?
As the week comes to an end, suspicion rises over what really happened to Clare Devine…
Elsewhere in the village…
Charlie Dean (Charlie Behan) picks up on Vicky Grant’s (Anya Lawrence) avoidance of food and attempts to help her see that she doesn’t need to diet.
Having passed his driving test, Charlie shows Vicky his new car – but he finds her crying and drunk. Vicky is sad about Frankie Osborne’s (Isabelle Smith) upcoming exit. Frankie gifts her friend a dress and smitten Charlie watches on.
Elsewhere, Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher) heads to the hospital for chemotherapy with a bunch of magazines from her children. She promises they can all enjoy Easter but Tony (Nick Pickard) fears it will be too much.
Diane opens up to Nancy (Jessica Fox) about how Tony’s fussing is making her anxious. Nancy offers to stay for a while as Tony goes home to prevent the kitchen from going up in smoke. But with the chicken burnt, Tony breaks down.
Ant (Brook Debio), meanwhile, opens up to Kathleen-Angel (Naledi Rapotu). Kathleen-Angel offers support but, jumping to the wrong conclusions, Theresa (Jorgie Porter) scolds them when she spots their heartfelt embrace.
Hollyoaks streams Mondays to Wednesdays from 6am on Channel 4’s streaming platform, or catch episodes on TV at 7pm on E4.
