Henry Cavill shows injury that caused Highlander reboot delay
Henry Cavill has revealed the extent of the injury that forced a pause in production of the upcoming Highlander reboot. On September 19, the actor shared two images on Instagram. In the first photo, he posed for a cozy selfie with his dog Baggins. The second one focuses on his left leg, which was wrapped in a bandage and elevated on the table.
Alongside the images, Cavill included lines from William Ernest Henley’s 1888 poem Invictus. “Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be, For my unconquerable soul.” He concluded with the iconic words, “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”
The injury reportedly occurred during pre-production fight training. According to a report from Deadline on September 11, Cavill’s injury was significant enough to postpone filming, with production now expected to resume in early 2026. However, the specific details of the injury remains unknown.
Cavill has spent months rigorously preparing for his role in the Highlander reboot. At the 2024 CinemaCon he said, “If you think you’ve seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet” (via The Hollywood Reporter).
The reboot, titled Highlander, reunites an ensemble cast that includes Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Dave Bautista. The Witcher star is set to portray Connor McLeod, taking over the iconic role from the 1986 action fantasy original directed by Russell Mulcahy.
In addition to Highlander, Cavill also has multiple projects lined up, including In the Grey, helmed by Guy Ritchie.
