How do you pronounce Primark? Because as it turns out, your way may not be the right way.

There’s long been a debate on the correct way to say the high street brand’s name, especially between different regions of the UK. But now, the store has weighed in to settle it, once and for all.

There are two camps: those who pronounce it ‘Pr-eye-mark’, and those who call it ‘Pree-mark’.

Both seem to firmly believe they’re right, with the conflict spiralling on X.

‘It is Preemark and I will die on this hill,’ wrote @dylansplane, while @cherryromaa agreed, commenting: ‘Preemark 100%. It’s weird if you say Pry, like what.’

On the opposite side, @CatuaIity wrote: ‘Gives me the ick when people say Primark wrong, tf is Preemark.’

‘For the love of God it’s Primark not preemark,’ added @estusreputation.

This discourse has caught the attention of the high street staple, founded in June 1969, so much so that it has finally put the argument to bed.

Primark created a dedicated help centre page on how it should be pronounced, telling fans: ‘We like to use Pr-eye-mark.’

Of course you can say it however you wish, but that’s the final word from the brand itself.

This isn’t the only case of potayto, potahto that has left people scratching their heads either.

Last year, we discovered we’d been pronouncing the name of a popular restaurant chain all wrong.

Prezzo, the popular eatery with 96 locations across the UK, gets its name from the Italian word for price, and the restaurant told us how to say it.

Olly Smith, chief brand officer at Prezzo previously told Metro: ‘We celebrate diversity at Prezzo – of all things, including the pronunciation of our name.

‘Many of our customers are surprised to discover that the correct way to say Prezzo is “PreT-zo”, with the first z pronounced like a t, rather than “PreZ-zo”.

‘‌If you’re unsure how to pronounce it, an easy way to remember is that the first z in the word Prezzo has the hard ‘T’ sound – just like pizza or mozzarella.’
