A sequel Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is due out June 26 and, according to creator Hideo Kojima, will take place in Australia. At a recent Q&A event, Kojima explained that Bridges is able to travel between continents thanks to in-game invention the Plate Gate.
“If I use this Plate Gate concept, I could make endless sequels!” Kojima added (via Eurogamer). “I, of course, don’t have any plans to do that, but I already have a concept for another sequel. I am not going to make it myself, but if I passed it on to someone else, they could probably make it.”
At the start of 2025, Kojima admitted that he didn’t know how much longer he’d be making games for. “At this age, I can’t help but think about how much longer I’ll be able to stay ‘creative’,” the 61-year-old wrote on social media.
“I want to keep going for the rest of my life, but is it 10 more years? 20? Every day feels like I’m racing against the clock. Even now, at 87, Ridley Scott is still active. And back when he was past 60 – my current stage in life – he created the masterpiece Gladiator.”
As well as Death Stranding 2, Kojima is currently working on a big screen adaptation of Death Stranding and is also developing a game with celebrated horror director Jordan Peele. Kojima has also confirmed plans for a new stealth game, codename Physint.
The team behind Death Stranding have also confirmed a global concert tour will kick off later this year, featuring music from the original game and the sequel.
In other news, it doesn’t look like Grand Theft Auto 6 will be launching on the Nintendo Switch 2.
