The Highlander remake that stars Henry Cavill will be pausing production until next year, following an injury Cavill suffered while training for the movie.
Why is Highlander delayed?
According to a new report from Deadline, Cavill was injured during pre-production training on the movie. It’s unclear exactly what happened to Cavill, but the injury will force the movie to be delayed for a bit.
Deadline’s report notes that production on the movie will now likely begin at the beginning of next year. Previously, production on the project was set to commence in the fall. Also unclear is whether or not the delay in production will result in a different release date for the film.
An exact release date has not yet been set, though Stahelski previously said it would likely arrive in either 2027 or 2028.
The Highlander remake is set to star Henry Cavill in the lead role of Connor MacLeod, originally played by Christopher Lambert. Alongside Cavill, the film will also star Dave Bautista, Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Max Zhang.
Plot details for the new Highlander movie have not yet been revealed. The project was originally in development at Lionsgate but is now instead being made for Amazon MGM Studios.
“When the mystical Russell Nash (Lambert) kills a man in a sword fight in a New York City parking lot, he leaves a sliver of an ancient weapon lodged in a car in the process,” a description of the original Highlander film reads. “After brilliant forensics specialist Brenda Wyatt (Roxanne Hart) recovers evidence of the mysterious weapon, she and her partner, Lt. Frank Moran (Alan North), embark on an investigation Of Nash that will land them in the middle of a dangerous, centuries-old feud between powerful immortals.”
