To finish a story on one's own terms is a gift that many shows never get nowadays. Cancellations can happen at any time, sometimes with renewals being reversed. It is especially heartbreaking when the story is nearing a natural end, and the creators are ready to land the ship. Netflix has been the biggest culprit, with shows like GLOW, The OA, and Santa Clarita Diet having the rug pulled out from under them as the story was about to conclude. Something similar happened at HBO, when it cancelled a popular sci-fi series before the final season.
