Hazbin Hotel Creator Confirms Roo Is Behind Hell’s Mysterious Eye Surveillance

Hazbin Hotel creator Vivienne Medrano has officially resolved one of the Hellaverse’s most enduring mysteries, confirming that the character Roo—the “Root of All Evil”—is the entity behind the many eyes embedded in the landscape of Hell.

The reveal, made during an interview at FanX Salt Lake published on October 14, 2026, shifts a long-standing fan theory into canon. For years, viewers speculated whether the eyes seen in Hell’s architecture and geography were the remnants of exterminated souls or a mere stylistic choice. Medrano’s confirmation establishes that these eyes are an extension of Roo, creating a framework of surveillance that spans the entire realm.

According to Medrano, the presence of these eyes implies that Roo “has seen far more” about Charlie Morningstar and her ensemble than the characters currently realize. This development suggests that the primordial evil has been watching the hotel’s inhabitants since the pilot, raising the stakes for the upcoming seasons as the “Root of All Evil” moves from a background observer to an active threat.

The character , known as the 't of All Evil,' has been watching the hotel's residents since the beginning.

The confirmation aligns with a period of significant expansion for the franchise. Prime Video has already renewed Hazbin Hotel through Season 4, ensuring the narrative space necessary to explore Roo’s influence. While Hazbin Hotel Season 2 premiered in late 2025, Medrano indicated that Roo’s formal debut remains a secret, though voice recordings for the character were confirmed to have begun as early as October 2025.

The “Root of All Evil” and the Lore of Surveillance

The shift in lore fundamentally changes how the environment of Hell is perceived. Where fans once believed the eyes were a byproduct of sinners’ souls merging with the geography after the annual Extermination, the reality is now tied to a singular, primordial entity. This “Roo surveillance” suggests that no move made by the Hazbin Hotel staff has been truly private.

Medrano also teased the arrival of an “unexpected character” in future content alongside the Roo reveal. While details on this newcomer are sparse, the timing of the announcement coincided with the premiere of Helluva Boss Season 3, Part 1 on October 14, 2026, marking a major milestone for both series in the shared universe.

The design for Roo, which fans have tracked through Medrano’s conceptual art since 2019, is now officially integrated into the show’s mechanics. As the series moves into its third and fourth seasons, the focus is expected to shift toward how this primordial force intends to use the information gathered through her century-spanning surveillance of the Pride Ring and beyond.
