Harry Potter’s Tom Felton on Draco Recasting & Idea of Reboot Series

Actor Tom Felton recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. In a new interview at the Toronto International Film Festival, he revealed his excitement about meeting Draco Malfoy 2.0. Felton also reflected on the franchise’s enduring popularity more than two decades after its debut.

While promoting Gandhi at the Toronto International Film Festival, Tom Felton told Collider, “I’m very excited. I can’t believe, really, that the wizarding world is still going as strong as it is. Most fans that shout out Potter at me weren’t born when the first film was even made. So, I’m really excited. The fact that they’re shooting it in Leavesden Studios, where we made the films. It’s a bit surreal again. I look forward to meeting the new Draco 2.0.”

HBO is expected to launch its new adaptation in 2027, retelling all seven books across ten seasons. Lox Pratt will take on the role of Draco Malfoy, joining a new generation of actors bringing J.K. Rowling’s story to the screen.

Felton remains closely tied to the franchise and often admits that fans greet him in public by shouting Draco’s signature “Potter!” catchphrase. He laughed when recalling a moment just before entering the TIFF studio. “I think I just had [that] outside, ‘Potter!’ Yes, I get that quite a bit. I always smile and find it fun.”

Felton also revealed that his role in Gandhi may have come about through a personal connection, saying, “I think that’s how I got the part. I think Hansal (Mehta) wanted a selfie for his daughter, our director. I think that’s how I got the part.”

Alongside his film work, Felton will reprise Draco in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, beginning performances on November 11, 2025. He said, “Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I’ll also be the exact age Draco is in the play.”

His Broadway run at the Lyric Theatre concludes on March 22, 2026, marking the first time an original film cast member has reprised their role on stage.
