The Silence of the Lambs may not have been the first movie to feature Hannibal Lecter, but its version of the character, with Anthony Hopkins' portrayal, made Hannibal an iconic, albeit very different, horror movie villain. The Silence of the Lambs is based on the novel by author Thomas Harris and was directed by Jonathan Demme. The movie is still regarded as one of the greatest horror films of all time, as well as a gripping crime thriller. It is also one of the rare movies to win all five major awards at the Oscars.
