H.P. Lovecraft was an author known for pioneering cosmic horror centered around ocean depths and monstrous marine entities, most notably in his Cthulhu Mythos. James Cameron is also a filmmaker famously fascinated with the sea, as seen in Titanic (1997), Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), and his production of many documentaries about deep-ocean exploration, including Ghosts of the Abyss (2003) and Aliens of the Deep (2005).
