GTA VI Online Gets Devastating Update, But There’s Still Good News

Fans looking forward to causing mayhem in GTA VI’s Vice City may have to wait a little longer. Rockstar Games has provided an update on the status of GTA VI’s online mode, and it looks like players will have to keep waiting.

During Take-Two’s annual shareholder meeting (via ResetEra), Rockstar Games reiterated that “GTA VI is a single-player title.” As for GTA Online, the publisher added, “We will continue to support GTA Online after GTA VI release and beyond.”

Take-Two offers reassurance about GTA Online’s future

Rockstar Games’ wording suggests that either an online mode for GTA VI is not planned or that it isn’t ready for release. Previous reports have revealed that a multiplayer mode for GTA VI is in development. However, details of how it will play and what features it will ship with remain under wraps.

Rockstar Games has supported GTA Online since its introduction following GTA V’s launch in 2013. It allows players to build their criminal empire while undertaking missions in San Andreas with other players. It has since been updated to include a content creation tool that lets players create their own game modes and missions. Over the years, Rockstar has continued to ship new modes, heists, and other content to GTA Online. Its following game, Red Dead Redemption 2, also shipped with an online mode.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously suggested that a successor to GTA Online would not come at the cost of the original. With just two months to go before launch, Rockstar Games is starting the marketing cycle for the game. Most recently, it announced GTA VI: The Album and revealed the limited-edition GTA VI PS5 controllers. The developer officially revealed an extensive look at its gameplay on Netflix in August, before publishing it on YouTube.

GTA VI is currently available for digital pre-order on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It will be released globally on November 19, 2026.
