According to their official bios, “Lucia’s father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk. Life has been coming at her swinging ever since. Fighting for her family landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary. Sheer luck got her out.” Meanwhile, Jason grew up around “grifters and crooks” and starts off the game working for local drug runners. “Meeting Lucia could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him. Jason knows how he’d like it to turn out but right now, it’s hard to tell.”
In a new interview with Love Magazine (via Insider Gaming) game writer Alexa D’Agostino revealed that Lucia was inspired by real people. “When it came to writing Lucia, I thought of the women I know. My mother was an immigrant who grew up in Newark, New Jersey, close to Lucia’s hometown of Liberty City. I thought about the way she raised me: rowdy, kind, but not to take any shit. I related a lot to Lucia, and writing her came very naturally to me. There are many badass women like her, just as there are many men like Jason. We just focused on capturing that.”
D’Agnostino went on to say that they wanted to create a “full realised person” with Lucia, who is the first fully-voiced female protagonist in GTA history. “That’s how you get a woman that can stand tall next to the likes of Arthur Morgan [from Red Dead Redemption 2] and [Grand Theft Auto 4’s] Niko Bellic.”
It comes as Deborah Ann Woll has received a stream of abuse on social media over her starring role in the upcoming God Of War: Laufey, which launches February 16, 2027.
