The NBA is making good on their warning to Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant.
The guard was hit with a $75,000 fine by the league on Friday for making an inappropriate gesture on the court Thursday night against the Miami Heat.
Morant appeared to make a gun gesture at his opponents during a buzzer-beating win against the Heat, a gesture for which the NBA issued him a warning earlier Thursday.
“Morant was previously warned by the league office that the gesture could be interpreted in a negative light,” a statement released by the league read.
Morant was suspended twice in 2023 for a pair of incidents showing firearms on social media.
He was banned for eight games in March, then handed a 25-game suspension to begin the 2023-24 season, which cost him approximately $7.5 million.
Morant, a 25-year-old two-time all-star, has played just 46 games this season amid a series of injuries, averaging 22.7 points per game — his lowest since his sophomore season — to go with 7.4 assists and 4.2 rebounds.
