Greta Gerwig’s Narnia Adds Carey Mulligan to Cast, Role Revealed

Carey Mulligan has joined the cast of Greta Gerwig’s Narnia.

Gerwig is currently working on a movie based on C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia for Netflix. The film is intended to start a franchise and is currently in the casting process, with Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, and Meryl Streep having all been reportedly tapped to star in the film.

Who is Carey Mulligan playing in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia?

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan has now also joined the cast of Narnia in a “key role,” as she’ll play “the very sick mother of Digory, one of the two kids in the adventure.”

Gerwig’s first Narnia movie is said to be an adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew, which was technically the sixth novel published in Lewis’ series; however, it serves as a prequel to the rest of the books.

“It follows two youngsters who, thanks to an uncle’s magic dabbling, unleash the evil White Witch into a turn-of-the-20th-century London,” The Hollywood Reporter’s article reads.

Craig is rumored to be playing the uncle in Gerwig’s movie, while Streep is said to be voicing Aslan. Mackey, meanwhile, has been tapped to play the White Witch.

Mulligan has received three Academy Award nominations for Best Actress throughout her career, for 2010’seasons An Education, 2021’s Promising Young Woman, and 2024’s Maestro. Her filmography further includes 2005’s Pride & Prejudice, 2011’s Drive, 2013’s The Great Gatsby, 2013’s Inside Llewyn Davis, 2015’s Suffragette, 2017’s Mudbound, 2022’s She Said, 2023’s Saltburn, and 2025’s The Ballad of Wallis Island, among other titles. She’ll also soon be seen starring in Beef Season 2 alongside Oscar Isaac, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny.

Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal, and Vincent Sieber are producing Gerwig’s movie, which will get a theatrical IMAX run in November 2026 before it makes its way to Netflix’s streaming service the following month.
