Ever since it was announced, Prime Video's adaptation of PlayStation's flagship God of War franchise has been caught in choppy waters. The series was initially being developed under the creative trio of Mark Fergus, Hawk Ostby, and showrunner Rafe Judkins, but the studios behind it ultimately wanted to take the project in a different direction. Under prolific television steward Ronald D. Moore, things have been smoother sailing after a massive overhaul, though the ship went off course again recently when Ryan Hurst, who had been tapped to play the lead role of Kratos, suffered a serious injury, leading to a pause in production and the role being recast. Fortunately, a fitting replacement was swiftly lined up to embody the towering Dad of War — Dave Bautista.
