‘Go Down Swingin!’: Bruce Campbell Writes New Song About Incurable Cancer Diagnosis

Legendary actor Bruce Campbell is channeling his cancer journey into creative form, sharing a brand-new song dedicated to anyone facing a similar situation. The Evil Dead star released the song on his social media handles.

Dropping the 4-minute and 13-second track, “Hey, Cancer,” the 68-year-old mentioned that he penned the song and dedicated it “to anyone who has ever had to deal with it.” The caption closed with “Go down swingin’!”

The Ernie & Emma star first revealed his condition in March 2026 via an Instagram post. He said that he has a type of cancer that is “treatable” but not “curable.” He did not disclose the specific type of cancer.

Campbell recently discussed his cancer condition and diagnosis during an appearance on The Adam Carolla Show. The 68-year-old said he may have around five years left to live.

“I’m in a five-year prognosis. With the type of cancer that I have, which I don’t want to get into, the current thing is a five-year deal,” Campbell said. He later described the timeframe as “Give or take.” Asked if that meant five years to live, he described it simply as “Give or take,” noting that medical advancements could shift his outlook over time.

Campbell explained that he decided not to dwell on the condition or diagnosis. “I’ve decided, though, pretty specifically, though, to live with it, not die from it because you can go down a massive rabbit hole,” he said. “The cancer rabbit hole is enormous. You can go into focus groups of 10,000 guys who have exactly what you have. I won’t touch it with a 10-foot pole.”

While he continues his treatment, Campbell is promoting his new directorial feature Ernie & Emma on an 18-date tour across multiple Alamo Drafthouse cinema locations. In addition to directing, he also wrote and co-produced the comedy film while starring in it.
