While most know George Lucas as the man behind theStar Warsfranchise, his breakthrough film, American Graffiti, predates his epic space opera by four years. The film is a love letter to being young, at a crossroads between the comfortable past and the unknown future, in 1962. American Graffiti was blessed with a cast of big actors in the days before they became big, including a pre-JawsRichard Dreyfussand frequent Lucas collaborator Harrison Ford. One of those actors is Ron Howard, and the story of how he came to be cast in the film has a fascinating connection with the famed sitcom Happy Days, while the film itself is credited with getting Happy Days to air.
