Mabel Gonzalez’s daughter, Mercedes Gonzalez Mayo, surprised her mom at her birthday party. She made her mother meet two popular faces from the latter’s favorite show, General Hospital. In a video posted on Instagram, Gonzalez first received a sweet video message from Benard. He wished her a happy birthday and apologized for not showing up. “I’m sorry I couldn’t be there — I have business to take care of in Port Charles. But I’m sending you an old lover of mine,” Benard said.

And the old lover was none other than Vanessa Marcil’s Brenda. Marcil showed up at the party, leaving Gonzalez shocked. The actress gave the birthday girl a hug and the two shared fun moments at the celebration. Mercedes expressed her feelings for her mom and the latter’s love for the ABC soap opera in the caption. “Months of planning this surprise for my mom @mabelnietogonzalez and there was truly no greater feeling than watching her reaction and giving her the surprise of her life on her 60th birthday!,” she wrote.

She further thanked Bernard and Marcil for making her mother’s big day special. Mercedes showered praises on Marcil, calling her “an icon, legend, beyond genuine, and truly beautiful inside and out!” The blogger added, “My mom has been watching General Hospital since she was 13 years old! For the last 47 years she has tuned in every Monday through Friday and has not missed one episode. I will never forget getting home from school every day and having no choice but to watch it since it came on at 3 PM.”

She added she and her brothers “became life long GH fans” and “grew up watching Brenda & Sonny!” Mercedes concluded, “This was such a special moment for not only my mom but our whole family! Truly a memory we will never forget.”
