Jason’s portrayer, Steve Burton, shared details on how General Hospital will honor Monica, played by Leslie Charleson. Earlier this year, Charleson passed away at age 79. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner cited “sequelae of blunt head trauma” as her cause of death. In a recent episode, Jason discovered Monica unresponsive and later announced her death. This week, the show will pay its final respects to the character and the iconic actress.

When will General Hospital’s Monica Quartermaine tribute air?

Monica Quartermaine’s tribute on General Hospital will air on September 25, 2025.

During an episode of Stone Cold and the Jackal, Burton reflected on the emotional scenes involving Monica’s character. He said, “Obviously, it wasn’t easy for anybody.” He acknowledged that it was especially difficult to revisit the funeral storyline due to the time gap between Charleson’s real-life passing and Monica’s on-screen death. “The psychological part of already going to Leslie’s celebration of life and kind of moving past that, then re-opening the whole thing again was super painful,” he added.

He assured fans that the soap will honor Charleson’s character fittingly. He said, “They’re giving her the proper tribute. What we want, what the fans want and what she deserves.” In addition to sharing details on the soap’s tribute to Monica, Burton also reflected on the memorial that happened back in February. He mentioned, “I’m grateful for the time we had together, and I’ll say this: Going to her celebration of life? She touched so many people.”

He described the event as a great celebration of Charleson’s life, as many people attended who felt she had left a positive mark on them. “What I don’t think the public knew, and I certainly didn’t know the extent of it, was how many people she touched. How many people showed up and got up and said, ‘She changed my life.’ It’s a huge testament to the character of that woman, and it was such a blessing to be able to play her son,” he added (via Soap She Knows).
